RollerCoaster Tycoon Gold Edition Review

Roller Coaster Tycoon is one of my favorite PC games. That's why I'm reviewing this. The hardest part of all in this game is the Arid Heights park in "Loopy Landscapes". But after you beat all the scenarios in the game, you will unlock Mega park, the biggest theme park of all. Now when it comes to the rides, it's just okay. It could use some improvements. Why? Because the rides are not many. Like in some park, it only shows at laest only 1 ride in a section like the roller coasters, thrill rides. Still, the game is cool.

Lego: Universe

Lego: Universe Review

You know, there's something just flat wonderful about Lego. Back when I was a kid I couldn't have enough of them! As an adult, I had a wonderful Lego city that included a lighthouse, police department, pizzaria, roads, landscaping and even, in one corner of it, some old West sets that I made to look like a movie was being filmed. Good times, good times.

I don't own much in the way of Lego now. I have one small minifigure of a traveler and that's about it. But on the other hand I have and enjoy "Lego Batman" and was fortunate enough to participate in the beta testing for this fine game, "Lego Universe."

LU is a MMORPG. Like any of the sort, such as "World of Warcraft", you make a character and run around doing quests while accumulating treasure. Unlike any others I've seen, you get to have your own bit of land and you can use that to build your own Lego paradise! In practice it's not as simple to do as you might like, but once you get used to using the building tools, it's very fun.

The game itself is easy, but not overly so. There's plenty of in-game help and tools and unlike many other games, they're actually useful. There's also a lovely design aesthetic to the game, and some serious chuckles at some of the elements and cut scenes.

Now bear in mind this is a game directed primarily at children. As such, you'll run into a lot more restrictions than normal, which even carries over into your name. You create a default name at first using approved words (my first character? Dazzling Garlic Toad). You can submit a name of your own, but it's subject to approval by the game makers.

That said, though, it's still a very fun and enjoyable game and one that I'd highly recommend for kids or just anyone who is into Lego!

Battlefield 1942: The Complete Collection

Battlefield 1942: The Complete Collection Review

This game should be in every hardcore gamer's collection. While dated, it doesn't detract from what a brilliant game engine and revolutionary approach Battlefield 1942 introduced to the FPS genre. Having recently re-purchased and re-installed the game after many playing many new exciting titles by EA such as Battlefield 2 and Battlefield Bad Company 1/2 I can honestly say that there are elements found in 1942 that still make the game a worthwhile purchase not the least of which being the large mod community that has associated itself with the title. While the multiplayer community for 1942 is far from "dead" time has taken its toll (produced in 2002) on the online activity. At any given time it is possible to find anywhere between 2-5 full servers ( 64 players ) and a large number of smaller servers between 10-30 players. Finding a server with a low latency could be an issue due to the small number of fully staffed servers that may force you to play on a server located far away in other countries which impacts the game's overall rating but still a great game none the less.

Battlefield 1942: The Complete Collection Feature

  • Immerse yourself in intense WWII flight action as you make your way through the ranks of an elite fighter squadron.
  • Go deep behind enemy lines as you battle for victory in the European and Asian theaters of war.
  • Take command of Allied troops during the hellish battles of WWII as you struggle to wrest victory from the hands of the Fascists.
  • Wage war online from dark jungles to villages on the Ho Chi Minh Trail.
  • Master the weapons of warfare including pongee sticks and booby traps.

Battlefield 1942: The Complete Collection Specifications

Battlefield 1942: The Complete Collection is the ultimate FPS experience. Included are all three Battlefield expansion packs in addition to the original: Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Vietnam, Secret Weapons over Normandy, and Battlefield 1942: The Road to Rome. From the beaches of Normandy to the rock n' roll of Vietnam, every mission is available for a quick attack or an overnight multiplayer marathon.

In Battlefield 1942, you're a WWII soldier on a true-to-life battlefield, equipped with weapons that look and sound authentic, able to storm the beaches on foot or seamlessly jump into and out of any of 35 vehicles of war. The depth is incredible. While on foot, you play as one of five specialized classes (assault, medic, scout, antitank, or engineer) with varying equipment and abilities. The choice of vehicles ranges from a selection of tanks, jeeps, and other fairly standard mechanized land vehicles to exotic craft like battleships, submarines, and dive bombers. Best of all, you can pit yourself against your fellow man in objective-based online battles in four distinct WWII theaters of war: North Africa, South Asia Pacific, Western Europe, and Eastern Europe. This is everything that World War II Online should have been. This is Tribes 2 with better code, graphics, control--everything, and without the cheesy sci-fi trappings. This out-WWIIs Medal of Honor and Return to Castle Wolfenstein. This game is like the ultimate sandbox, with all the best toys.

Battlefield Vietnam: The Battlefield franchise enters a new era equipped with more firepower, modernized weaponry and vehicles, and a deeper infantry experience from the jungles to the beaches of Vietnam. From villages on the Ho Chi Minh Trail to the city streets of Hue wage modern warfare as the United States or North Vietnamese Army (NVA).

Plants vs Zombies Game of the Year Limited Edition

Plants vs Zombies Game of the Year Limited Edition Review

I am a 64 year old woman and am totally addicted to this game. It has provided me with endless, challenging fun. I bought the original version after trying the download and when I bought a new Mac computer I bought the Game of the Year edition which is even more awesome. I have most of my grandchildren playing it. My six year old grandson in Virginia insisted to his father that he had to call me to tell me he was on the Roof level. My nine year old grandson emailed me that he had completed the Adventure level. It has given us lots to talk about when we are together or on the phone. They tell me I'm an "awesome Grandma". I play lots of computer games and this is the best so far. Even though I have completed all the levels, I still go back and play the mini games or do the Adventure level over again. The endless level is a constant challenge. So glad I am retired!

Plants vs Zombies Game of the Year Limited Edition Feature

  • Zombie character in every box
  • Play five game modes: Adventure, Mini-Games, Puzzle, Survival, plus the stress-free Zen Garden
  • Conquer all 50 levels of Adventure mode through day, night and fog, in a swimming pool and on the rooftop
  • Create your own zombies with the Zombatar ? then watch them in action as you play the game

Empire: Total War

Empire: Total War Review

I love Total War games, and this one is great. The graphics are a huge step up from previous titles but the general mechanics are still the same. There are many changes that make the game better in my opinion.

I never got used to Naval battles. Although I can win some of them, they are really tough and not as enjoyable as field battles. But this was still a great addition to the game.

Also, I was disappointed in only having a few factions to play as. I would have liked for more of them to be able to be unlocked like in previous games. There are mods that let you unlock them, but I noticed I had game performance issues when using these mods and I had to remove them.

Still a great game, I play it on and off and always enjoy a good battle. Total War games are great if you love historically accurate war games!

Empire: Total War Feature

  • New Real-time 3D Naval Warfare. Players control single ships or vast fleets with fully destructible sails as well as cannon and musket action, boarding raids and more. This is the complete naval combat experience.
  • All-new Game Engine. With a newly created Windows XP-compatible DirectX 9 graphics engine, players will experience real-time seascapes, dynamic weather and a new advanced landscape and flora system.
  • Episodic Campaign. Improves accessibility to the game by gradually introducing advanced features over time.
  • Massive Scope. Over 30 in-game factions encompass all of the World's major powers including the United States of America.and dodge pursuers using the stylus.
  • Brand New Multiplayer Modes. Players vie for a place at the top of the rankings and join leagues and ladders for even more gameplay challenges.

Empire: Total War Overview

Control the sea, command great armies, forge a new nation and conquer the globe. Empire: Total War takes the Total War franchise to the 18th Century and the Age of Imperialism—a time of near perpetual war. This latest installation in the award-winning, multi-million unit selling Total War franchise introduces a host of revolutionary new features, including true 3D naval combat. Players will be able to command single ships or vast fleets upon seascapes rich with extraordinary effects. After pummeling enemies with cannon fire, players will close in to grapple enemy ships and prepare to board, taking control of men as they fight hand-to-hand. With an entirely new game engine, Empire will see further enhancements to the 3D battles and turn-based campaign maps. Empire lets players experience combat on the high seas, India, Europe, and, for the first time, the United States of America.

Empire: Total War Specifications

Call the shots in epic battles all over the world and expand your realm of influence throughout the tumultuous eighteenth century with Empire: Total War for your PC. Set against the bold intellectual landscape of the Enlightenment, this extension of the Total War franchise brings you out of the middle ages and into a realm where guns, gunpowder, and naval warfare have a dramatic influence on the face of combat.

Historic Factions, Expanded Horizons, and an Updated Campaign Map
Total War's detailed, turn-based battle system has received some serious upgrades that will have an impact on both seasoned commanders and newly minted combatants. The UI has been streamlined, and the systems for handling trade and diplomacy have been updated. You have improved advisors at your disposal, and realistic espionage techniques can be carried out using agents.

Empire puts a variety of major political factions into your hands, including France, Spain, Great Britain, Sweden, the United Provinces in northern Europe, Prussia, the Ottoman Empire, and Russia. Detailed strategic elements come into play, whether you're fighting in the heart of Europe, warding off Mamluk horsemen in the middle east, or working to capture the wealth of India. Beyond all this, for the first time in Total War history, the continent of North America is an open field of play that portrays the unique strategic problems encountered by the founding fathers during the revolutionary war.

Dynamic 3D Naval Battles and Forces of Nature
Total War's signature 3D battle scenes are paired with a new graphics engine and improved technology, allowing war and conquest to take on an even more realistic feel. Advanced landscape and flora systems add both realism and depth to the world stage, while dynamic weather consistently threatens to throw a wrench in your attack plans.

Whether you're coordinating platoon firing or supporting a defensive square formation, the musket and the cannon take center stage as newly developed implements of war. And they're not just for use on land. Real-time naval battle set on dramatic seascapes help shape the balance of power and determine the scope of your Empire, and they're rendered in the same impressive 3D as battles on land. You may find yourself directing a vast fleet through intricate maneuvers, controlling the helm of a single tall ship, or grappling to the enemy's boat and dictating the course of hand-to-hand combat on deck.

New Multiplayer Action
Additional updates to the Total War model include a multiplayer component that provides player rankings for competitive commanders, leagues and ladders, and a selection of entirely new modes of game play.

Microsoft SideWinder X8 Mouse

Microsoft SideWinder X8 Mouse Review

I'll begin this review by stating an opinion: "gaming" these days is a loaded term. It is a label often applied to many products in order to justify a (sometimes) 150% increase in cost, and sometimes more than that. I've found that many products that have this label applied to it to be SORELY lacking, and most people that buy them seem to do so SOLELY because it says it's a "gaming" product. So, with that in mind, here's the review:

Mice are one of the few things I'll justify spending a bit more on. I say "a bit more" as in "more than the 2 button $[...] mice you used to find in schools." I don't however, fall for the frequent traps the industry seems to be laying for customers these days (see above). In fact, I'm one of those people who rarely ever upgrades anything, unless it breaks or needs upgrading to continue to function. I've been a PC gamer since I was a kid, but have only purchased 3 mice (in order of progression): a Micrsoft Intellimouse optical (these used to be all the rage) that I paid a whopping $[...] shipped for on Ebay, a Logitech G5 2142 edition mouse that I paid $[...] for on eBay, and this Microsoft Sidewinder X8 that I purchased on Amazon for $[...]ish. In point of fact, I only purchased this because my trusty old Logitech was starting to wear from having the cord wound and unwound from moving it all the time, and figured a replacement was in order.

I checked out a cousin's Razer (I think it was a Mamba, but it was wired), which seemed kind of nice, until you look at the price of them. Sure, they had more buttons than my old Logitech, but cost over twice as much, and didn't seem to perform much better than the Logitech. Obviously, they were taken out of contention. So off to Google I went, and much to my surprise, Microsoft had produced a (wireless) gaming mouse, which according to most of the reviews I've read was a fairly decent product. I also have a 360, and while I am more than a little annoyed that it has been back to the factory thrice, I figured a company that has been in the video game and computer industry as long as Microsoft has might know what it's doing. For the most part, I was right.

So about a week after I ordered the mouse, I received it, and immediately set to work unboxing and installing it. One of the first things I liked about it was that it's a sharp looking mouse. The color of the mouse (and the "puck" that it connects to) is in a Black/Grey/Silver motif. The LED's visible on the mouse are a nice red color, and it really gives off a vibe of power (for lack of a better word). The mouse is a wireless/wired hybrid, and functions well in both modes. The reason I called it a hybrid is that unlike some other products, this mouse can be used while it is charging, as the charging interface magnetically connects to the bottom front of the mouse, and doesn't require you to put the mouse in the cradle to charge it. So long story short: When it's wireless, it's wireless. When it's charging, it acts (and looks) very similar to a conventional corded mouse. +1 on this design feature.

Another aspect I like is that the battery that the mouse uses isn't integral to the mouse itself. Anyone familiar with portable electronics will immediately realize that the weakest aspect in said devices is the battery. Batteries in comparison to the devices themselves are relatively short-lived, with many devices going through several batteries in the life of the product (Cell phones, I'm looking at you!) The X8 uses a humble NiMH AA battery, and includes one with the mouse. +1 on this design feature.

One of the two complaints I had is this: The Logitech G5 I had that preceded this mouse provided an ample platform for my huge mitts (XXL sized gloves), and I never had any issues with comfort. The X8 I have issues with. To me, it seems like there should be more mouse to the right of the right mouse button than there actually is. I know that's a strange way of describing it, but it's all I've got. I use my Index and Middle fingers to operate the buttons on the mouse, and move my index finger over to the wheel as needed. My ring and pinky fingers hang off the side of the mouse, and feel...strange, for lack of a better word. I blame this feeling in large part to adjusting to a different set of ergonomics over the old Logitech I had. After a few weeks however, most of this feeling has gone away. It still annoys me from time to time, however.

The only other complaint I had with the mouse is that there have been several instances where the cursor on the screen lags for a few seconds. It has occurred I think 3 times since I bought the mouse, so it isn't a huge issue. I have to admit however, that due to the rarity of the occurrence I haven't exactly been observant of other factors that may have influenced it. I only know that I never had these kinds of issues with the old Logitech. Having said that however: (to paraphrase Spock): "When you eliminate the impossible, whatever is left, however unlikely, must be the truth."

Something else interesting to note: I an attempt to figure out if there was any delay in the switching between the wired and wireless modes, I conducted a couple of tests. Both in games and just surfing the web, I moved the mouse rapidly, and in the middle of doing so, disconnected the mouse from the charging cable. There was no delay, or noticeable lag in the motion of the mouse. My initial belief (before having conducted the test) was the the mouse functioned in a wireless mode only when disconnected from the puck, and functioned as a traditional wired (IE USB) mouse when it was connected. The results of my humble experiment lead me to believe that the mouse functions wirelessly 100% of the time, and the cable is used only to charge the mouse. Since I don't have any tools to test this theory, I can't be 100% sure, but it warrants some further thought or research on the topic. This might also explain the issues I was having above, seeing as thought we live an increasingly wireless world, and I'm in range of about 6 wireless access points, and probably 30 cell phones at any given time, any one of which could have potentially interfered with wireless signals.

The X8 has many more features that have been covered in both the product description, as well as other reviews, and I didn't feel like reiterating what has already been said. Suffice it to say that this product is a well-built, for the most part well designed, and very all around solid product for the money. You won't be disappointed.

CH Products Fighterstick USB Review

I just purchased X-Plane 9 for my Mac, and because I'd always wanted one and could now afford it, I bought the Fighterstick to go with it.

My young son fell in love with the stick and the game (but mostly the stick). Because he's awfully rough on the stick, I figured I'd buy an inexpensive one for him, so I bought the Logitech Attack 3 Joystick, thinking that if it worked well enough with X-Plane, I could return the Fighterstick and save some money. (I'm not a hardcore simmer by any means; I'm finally returning to flight simulation after a 10-year absence.) Briefly, it's a decent joystick but it has no trim wheels.

I really, really like that the Fighterstick has trim wheels for elevator and rudder, and it's vastly configurable from within X-Plane. However, I've found that I really want a separate rudder control without having to purchase pedals (trying to take off in a Cessna 172 with no rudder is no fun, due to P-factor, and being unable to correct for crosswinds on landing is also frustrating), so I want a stick with a twist feature (for yaw). Neither the Attack 3 nor the Fighterstick twists. I'm returning both sticks and going with the Thrustmaster T Flight HOTAS X, because it offers a twist as well as a separate throttle. We'll see how that works out. (On the other hand, I just tried it with Warbirds and it works great. Second thoughts...)

I'll be sad to see the Fighterstick go, because IMO this is the gold standard, but I'm just an occasional sim pilot trying to get the most bang for my buck.

CH Products Fighterstick USB Feature

  • USB programmable joystick
  • 3 axis and 24 buttons (three push buttons, one mode switch button, three 4 way hat switches and one 8 way point of view hat)
  • Total of 132 programmable functions with the new Control Manager software (included)
  • Realistic F-16 handle

I-Pen Digital Pen Writer Ipen Optical USB Mouse Input Device

I-Pen Digital Pen Writer Ipen Optical USB Mouse Input Device Review

Okay, so I'll keep this short and simple. Buy this! The optical sensor works great, the design is comfortable, and it looks cool. The only thing that would make it better is if it was wireless. I almost started using this as my everyday mouse, until I got my wireless Trackman. Very impressed. I would highly recommend this product.

I-Pen Digital Pen Writer Ipen Optical USB Mouse Input Device Feature

    • Optical navigation & mouse-hover technology
    • Pen-on-paper feeling, natural handwriting by sensing contact pressure
    • Standard mouse driver and USB connection, just plug & play
    • No special pad required, free to use on almost any surface
    • Compact and light, perfect for laptop users

I-Pen Digital Pen Writer Ipen Optical USB Mouse Input Device Overview

I-pen Mouse is a pen-shaped mouse for PCs that allows natural writing just like using a real pen. Utilizing the latest optical navigation technology, I-pen is lightweight, durable, and accurate. With I-pen Mouse, the user can perform natural handwriting to do more creative work or special tasks that were previously impossible with a mouse. I-pen Mouse is designed to work in "mouse mode" for fast point-and-click action and also in "pen mode" for writing and drawing actions. Two modes can be changed manually with the switch of a button. Because it requires a very small surface to write on, it is ideal for laptop users and perfect for places where limited workspace is available.Applications: Write a note on your presentation just like a paper with Finger WhiteTM. The traditional way of showing a presentation used a laser pointer to mark the point of importance which leaves no marks for later references. Now you can write a note, mark, draw, and keep it until you erase it. Browse your favorite website and write a note when there is something of interest as if you were marking the newspaper. Your notes will be saved even after you've visited other pages until you erase it. Draw and write on your desktop like a drawing board. Leave an important message on your desktop for reminder. You can even save your inputs and e-mail them later. Write a letter using the I-pen Mouse like a pen and the OCR converts your handwriting into typewriting text. Too lazy or slow to type letters? Then grab the I-pen Mouse and simply write like a pen. You can also input your signature.

    Full Throttle Review

A prelude to the greatest PC game ever released, Grim Fandango.

Full Throttle is a piece of the Tim Schafer puzzle. He creates a world that commands our attention, and delights us with humor that allows us to escape our ordinary lives.

While the game is dated, it is also next to impossible to find. This is a game for Tim Schafer fans and collectors.

Therefore, this my review of a recently purchased "new" copy from Amazon. The Amazon seller broke up a Lucas Arts collection set, and sold me one of the discs from the 3rd volume. The "Full Throttle" game was paired with "Dark Forces" from Star Wars, while the installation for both games was on another disc (unsent) from the set.

The disc was clearly marked, in large type "Not For Individual Sale". I notified Lucas, and they identified the disc and confirmed that the disc sold to me was from their 3rd classic collection and that the game installation was on another disc from that particular set. The seller described the disc as a jewel case cardboard sleeve sealed by the manufacturer.

I notified Amazon, they refunded my money. Amazon is wonderful.

But the 96% approval rated seller is selling the same individual disks from the same sets, without the installation disk...still here at Amazon, two months later.

Full Throttle is a collector's item and very hard to find in new condition. There was an updated version released in Europe/England in 2002, and it is now considered next to impossible to find, especially for us here in the USA.

Be very careful about a "reasonable purchase" or even an unreasonable purchase of this game. The Vultures are circling around it. Be careful.

The game is a Windows 95', XP players can limp along with XP's "Compatibility Mode" for Windows 95', or follow one of the many work arounds offered by fans at various websites.

I don't know what happened between Lucas Arts and Tim Schafer, but it appears even though there is a market for the Lucas games by Schafer, Lucas is not going to update the games' platform, nor produce any more to sell.

At this point in time, January 03, 2006, this is not a casual game to buy. It is rare and expensive. If you are a purchasing a copy for a reasonable amount, more than likely you are not purchasing a valid playable copy.

I would hate to unfairly target other sellers at Amazon for this game, but unless you can verify the game's authenticity, don't buy it.

Only buy this game if you are a fan and want the evolutionary works of the wildest and smartest game developer in history.

    mjh

World of Warcraft 60 Day Pre-Paid Time Card

    Saturday, October 23, 2010

World of Warcraft 60 Day Pre-Paid Time Card Review

Blizzard's customer service takes place by phone (which can involve a long wait in queue) or via an in-game trouble ticket. You can only have one ticket per character and, often can wait days for an answer. Their site directs users to the publicly readable forums for customer support issues and general game questions. Currently, the postings show the avatar selected by the user. In future, Blizzard's parent company will require all postings to the publicly readable forums show the posters' real first and last names. This will be in conjunction with the new version of the game, Cataclysm. The announcement has set off a firestorm in the publicly readable forums. Forget getting phone support right now - they can't even queue calls.

Concerns posted by users include violation of the ESRB privacy requirements for minors, LGBT players getting harassed, female players who are stalked in-game being stalked in real life (Advanced players use a voice app to talk to each other during some aspects of the game, hence the "outing" of females.), professionals are concerned that their jobs and job prospects may be affected (a recruiter in Australia is quoted as saying he never hires Warcraft players), singles are concerned about their dating prospects (stereotypes about guys in mom's basement), and others are concerned for personal safety. (Players kill each other in-game and some get very heated up about it.)

The realID system has already proven buggy (Add-ons can get this information and potentially expose billing email addresses to criminals) and, with the CEO's obsession with Facebook, we are bound to have Facebook-like security associated with the product. (In other words, none.) So, watch your credit card and credit rating.

In future, I will be using these game play cards. I can order them reasonably safely here on Amazon and apply the credit to my Blizzard account, without further risk to my personal credit card.

    Logitech G27 Racing Wheel

    Logitech G27 Racing Wheel Review

I bought the G27 about a month ago now and I've logged 36 hours playing F1 2010 since then. It was a big leap for me to spend this much on a racing wheel as I'm somewhere in between an arcade racer and a sim racer but I couldn't have made a better choice. Everything is extremely well made and has a solid feel to it. Leather feels and smells great, paddle shifters are solid, all the pedals require different pressure to floor, and the bolt-on feature works flawlessly. Force feedback is incredible. I love the way the wheel jostles me around when I hit the apex. On a couple occasions, I could actually feel that one of my front wheels had developed a flat spot before the tyre inevitably burst. Perhaps what's most impressive is how long I can race before feeling any strain. With my old xbox 360 controller, I would race for about 45 continuous minutes before I couldn't stand it anymore. With the g27, I run these F1 races on full length and go for 2 hours no problem. I don't know if this is a feature or not but races of this length also make me authentically drenched in sweat. lol. I was a bit worried about racing from my computer chair but it works out pretty well. You obviously don't drive a car sitting this up right but you seem to forget that pretty quickly when you get racing. The one and only drawback there is to this unit moving it. I have to move the wheel from my desk every time I want to play a first person shooter or type comfortably. Everything is tethered together so everything has to move to my bed on the left.

To sum up here, if you're on the fence about getting your money's worth with this wheel, put those worries to rest. The g27 is well built and well thought out.

    Logitech G27 Racing Wheel Feature

    • The powerful, dual-motor force feedback mechanism with helical gearing smoothly and accurately simulates traction loss
    • Six-speed shifter with push-down reverse gear allows you to quickly choose exactly the right gear.
    • RPM/shift indicator LEDs integrate with racing game software to indicate when the user should shift gears.
    • Realistic 11-Inch wheel with leather-wrapped rim provides a more comfortable, true-to-life racing experience for hours on end.
    • Steel gas, brake, and clutch pedals deliver precise throttle, braking, and shifting control for heightened realism.

    Logitech G27 Racing Wheel Overview

A simulator-grade racing wheel, the Logitech G27 Racing Wheel is designed to deliver the definitive sim racing experience for the PC and PLAYSTATION3. It features a powerful, dual-motor force feedback mechanism with exceptionally quiet helical gearing; a six-speed shifter with push-down reverse gear; integrated RPM/shift indicator LEDs; a comfortable 11-Inch leather-wrapped rim; and steel gas, brake, and clutch pedals.

    Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard (Black)

Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard (Black) Review

Only been using it for a few days. First thing to note is that, the keyboard is not your average sized keyboard. It's a bit more compact. will take a little getting used to the feel of it. I didnt notice this mentioned in any reviews etc.

Also didnt know this was the newer version with less macro buttons. Although I havent explored making macros yet, i would have hoped it had as many macro buttons as the old and well liked G15. Oh well...still a decent keyboard.

Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard (Black) Feature

    • With the Logitech-exclusive GamePanel LCD, you can easily find out what server your friends are using to play Battlefield 2142
    • Create useful macros on the fly and play them back with a single press of a G-key
    • 1-year limited hardware warranty
    • Illuminated characters allow you to play late into the night
    • Intelligent cable management: Keep mouse, headset, and other cords out of the way by routing them through channels on the underside of the keyboard

Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard (Black) Overview

Good intel and the proper gear are the keys to victory, even in gaming. The Logitech G15 keyboard keeps you informed and outfitted to win. With the Logitech-exclusive GamePanel LCD, you can easily find out what server your friends are using to play Battlefield 2142, or receive notification when your World of Warcraft battleground becomes available. You can even identify who s speaking in Ventrilo. Create useful macros on the fly and play them back with a single press of a G-key. Illuminated characters allow you to play late into the night.

Disney Winnie the Pooh Baby Review

Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Piglet and all babies favorite friends from the Hundred Acre Woods are here just waiting to play.

This unique CD lets babies, ages 9-24 months, explore and discover without lengthy instructions. Parents act as the guide using the mouse while children touch the keyboard to make things happen.

Each character has a different game to play and baby will learn cause and effect through the gentle humor, songs and surprises that only happen in the Hundred Acre Woods.

Pooh is looking for his honey. When baby touches the keyboard he will look in one of his jars. Pooh finds his honey and lots of other things that will delight baby.

Piglet is playing his very own version of "Simon Says." With one touch of the keyboard Piglet will ask baby to touch their nose, wiggle, smile and more.

Tigger is ready to play a bouncy game of peek-a-boo. Only Tigger can make this onscreen game so much fun.

Roo is playing music with pots and pans in the kitchen. Kids can play one pan at a time or listen to an entire song.

Eeyore is painting, but he needs help deciding what to paint. Touching the keyboard will prompt Eeyore to dip his tail in paint to create a simple picture that can be printed.

Babies want to do what they see Mom and Dad do. This is the perfect introduction to the computer. Mom, Dad and baby will have a ball.

    Baldur's Gate 4 in 1 Boxset

    Tuesday, October 19, 2010

    Baldur's Gate 4 in 1 Boxset Review

Baldur's Gate was one of the first PC games I ever played. And it will always be one of my favorites. It's a game with a slight learning curve, but if you're at all familiar with DnD, then it's not bad. Basically, you can't just go in and hack everything to bits and win. You have to plan. You need to prepare for every battle. Leveling up is EXTREMELY important (compared to the Diablo games, where another level is just another 5 stat points basically). Baldur's Gate took everything I knew about RPGs and made them better. In fact, RPG gaming, at the time, wasn't very big. But BG basically revived the entire genre because it had such a great reception (other games were renewing interest like Fallout, but BG was really the big fish at the time).

Baldur's Gate 2 is no different. All it did was fix the problems with Baldur's Gate (made seeing things easier, had more customization, had more side quests, etc.) and make the game bigger. You can even reuse your old character from BG1 in BG2 (in fact, you SHOULD since it's a continuation of the previous story).

I've played these games dozens of times now. I've made so many wizards and rogues, and have made a few fighters, paladins, monks, etc. I probably reinstall and replay this game once a year, and I've still not even played half the classes. There is just so much you can do with the game, its replayability is enormous. The story is the same every time, but it's still one of my favorite stories (and Sarevok from BG1 is still one of my favorite villains of all time). The writing is clever, hilarious, emotional, everything. The characters all have meaning and their own little tics and quirks (from Khalid's st-st-st-stuttering to Viconia's sassing to Minsc's ABSOLUTE HILARIOUS AND BAD-ASSEDNESS). This game is just incredible, and the fact that my brothers and friends have beaten it and started a new game so many times should tell you something about its appeal.

I love this game so much. Everyone should play it at least once.

    Baldur's Gate 4 in 1 Boxset Feature

    • This is the complete Baldur's Gate Compilation on four (4) DVD's. Includes: Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast, Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal.
    • Baldur's Gate : Baldur's Gate takes you back to the Forgotten Realms campaign setting on a visually dazzling role-playing adventure, one that brings to life the grand tradition of the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons game through cutting edge art and technology. Immerse yourself in this quintessential medieval fantasy world, where nations hang in the balance of your actions, dark prophecies test your resolve, and heroic dreams can be fulfilled at last.
    • Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Swords Coast : Continue your travels on the Sword Coast with the next set of adventurers in the award-winning Baldur's Gate role-playing game series.
    • Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn : Baldur's Gate II expands the Baldur's Gate world by bringing you a new set of adventures set in the nation of Amn. Baldur's Gate II has a large central, nonlinear plot line which is broken down into 7-8 chapters, with lots of sub quests and small adventures thrown in for variety. The number of item recovery type quests has been greatly diminished and there are be more class- and alignment-specific quests.
    • Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal : Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal greatly extends the Baldur's Gate II experience, with approximately 40 hours of additional adventures. Explore the lands of Tethyr as an epic conflict wreaks devastation on a scale never before seen in the Forgotten Realms campaign world

    Empire Deluxe Masters Edition Review

This game is a classic introductory war game (turn based) for the PC (like The Grandest Fleet). The game comes with an editor, and is styled after World War 2 (no nukes, however). You have a full range of units, from naval (Battleships, Subs, Transports), air (fighters, bombers) and land (infantry, tanks) units to choose from.

The goal is to destroy you opponents, there is no diplomacy. You can have up to 6 players (human or AI), and the AI is smart and agressive (3 AI levels). The AI does not cheat as in some other modern games. You are able to give it (or yourself) handicaps, if you want.

A very fun classic war game!

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 Review

Tiger Woods 2007 by EA Sports is an interesting game with many features to keep golf enthusiasts entertained, such as eventually hitting drives well over 300 yds and beating all the pros. It has about eight championship golf courses, including Pebble Beach & St. Andrews.

Although better than its previous years' versions, it comes in a distant second compared with its successor, Tiger Woods 2008. This program has better graphics, about twice as many courses and can be played full screen on large monitors, unlike the 2007 version with side bars.

Final grade for the 2007 version is 3 1/2 stars out of 5.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 Feature

    • Tiger Woods Comes Alive - See and feel every emotion in complete detail with the introduction of all-new Universal Capture (UCAP) technology. The world's No. 1 golfer seems so real you won't believe your eyes
    • Play under pressure, with bigger galleries, mass crowd movement from hole to hole, and cheers from nearby greens
    • From working on your driving to mastering your putting skills, craft your game with training challenges in the Practice Facility
    • Take on the world's best golfers on the World Tour
    • All-new championship courses, including Firestone Country Club, Glen Abbey, Princeville, Spyglass Hill, St Andrews, and Bandon Dunes

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 Overview

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007 takes golf gaming to new level of realism. Experience the next generation of technology as Tiger Woods comes to life -- you'll see and feel each emotion in detail, as it's displayed onscreen in the faces and movements of the golfers. Play under pressure just like pros, and go further in your game with the enhanced career mode. Featuring 15 of the world's top players, including Tiger Woods, John Daly, Vijay Singh, Ian Poulter, Michael Campbell, and Annika Sorenstam, the most decorated golfer on the LPGA Tour New Gameface tool with deeper modifications, more apparel, equipment licenses, and specialty items Challenge up to three players in five new game modes, or play in online tournaments complete with money lists, full stat tracking, league leaders, and more Work on your game or take on a friend in Match Play, Battle Golf, 21, OneBall, and more

    Ankh

    Ankh Review

Assil, the son of the designer of Pharaoh's pyramids, and a few friends have broken into a tomb for a little party. Unfortunately, their party disturbs a mummy, who proceeds to inflict a death curse on our hapless hero. In the process, the mummy loses an Ankh he's been holding. Assil acquires it without knowing what it is; all he wants is to get the death curse removed. Only Pharaoh can do that--but how to get to see Pharaoh, especially when his father has grounded him for his late-night activities??

"Ankh: Reverse the Curse" is a 3rd person point and click adventure in the classic style, harking back, as others have mentioned, to the old Lucas Arts games like Monkey Island and Grim Fandango. There are good and bad aspects to this. You can't die or even get stuck and there are none of the annoying timed puzzles that are becoming so prevalent in adventure today. On the other hand, there's A LOT of running around from location to location and some of the puzzles are the illogical sort that make some people hate adventure as a genre (yes, I really WOULD use a bed of nails to open a can instead of the more appropriate things I have in inventory...)

The puzzles are almost entirely conversation- and inventory-based--I can only think of one exception. Most are fairly easy if you have learned to think like a game developer. Otherwise you may find youself combining--or trying to combine--random inventory with random hotspots to try to get something, ANYTHING to happen. This happened to me several times. Also, there are many pixel hunts or places where a moving part sometimes shows a hotspot and sometimes doesn't. I found this unecessarily frustrating.

I also ran into a couple glitches playing the game: one where opening the treasure map caused the game to lock up so I had to reboot my computer and restart from the last save, and another where doing several pieces of a task out of order made it impossible to go on. Once again, I had to quit the game and reload the last save.

On the good side, this game is funny and, as I said, it has no timed sequences and you can't die (or not really. There is one kind of timed puzzle, but you can practice as much as you want and it's not very long). The voice acting is quite good, as is the 3-D, cartoon style animation. I quite liked the environmental F/X--in addition to background sounds, you could overhear people carrying on conversations, just as you might in a real marketplace. One section where you played two characters was pretty interesting; I wish you had been able to do that more. Your inventory remained relatively small and most items disappeared when you were through with them. The story developed well, from what seemed a simple task at first to a plot with wider implications that could well carry into the sequel (which is being made even as I write this). I considered the game neither too short nor too long, but just the right length for what it was trying to accomplish.

I also cannot quite understand the Teen rating here, unless it was due to the skimpy costume one of the female characters wore, or perhaps the scary Osiris character. Ankh, in my opinion, is a great game for the family to enjoy together as well as a great game for the single adventurer. I hope the sequel comes out soon.

    Ankh Feature

    • 200+ sports and racing games; more than 210 card and casino games
    • Become immersed in Ankh's amazing ancient world this comic adventure
    • Accidentally unleash a deadly curse; discover a precious amulet
    • Over 1300 puzzle and board games; 570+ word and brain games
    • More than 500 action and arcade games; over 420 Sudoku games

    Ankh Overview

A new comic adventure in the tradition of PC classics like Monkey Island and Sam & Max! Animated Egyptian adventure game for children and adults of all ages. A humorous dialogue and cinematic soundtrack - a cast of characters similar to Disney's Aladdin.

Ultimate Ride Coaster Deluxe (Jewel Case)

Ultimate Ride Coaster Deluxe (Jewel Case) Review

This is a great game for all ages. There are a few downfalls I would like to mention though. You can't choose very many themes, track types, or colors. You don't get a big space to build your roller coaster, so sometimes you have to squish everything together, and that gets difficult. No one even rides the rides when you are. Its just you, all alone. You don't even get rated on how good or bad your ride is. But, the good thing about this game is you get to actually ride the rides. That's pretty fun. So, that's basically it.

Ultimate Ride Coaster Deluxe (Jewel Case) Overview

Ultimate Ride Coaster Deluxe lets you create coasters unlike any you have ever seen before, with new tools, new coaster pieces, and new track enhancers. Experience your ride flying or standing with two exciting new track types, with five track types in all.

Sword of the New World-Granada Espada

Sword of the New World-Granada Espada Review

I haven't played many MMORPGs, most notably Guild Wars and some of the other lesser ones. I liked the idea of them, but was put off by the slow based combat, taking forever for my character to kill off a mob of enemies. Not to mention the whole monthly fee aspect.

Since this is free now, I gave it a whirl and was hooked. Instead of controlling only 1 character, you control 3 at a time (you can have up to 45 characters). And most enemies you fight die in one or two hits. The catch is, there are dozens of them, sometimes hundreds. It's really like John Woo made a MMORPG. You can even equip some characters with two pistols.

The graphics are stunning, maybe not the best anymore, but it rivals any that came out in 2006. And it runs well, I can max out settings at 1440x900 on my 3 year old computer. It's also got a unique art style, sort of Regency-Victorian-ish.

It's got its problems, though. Like a lot of Korean RPGs, it's grind heavy. There aren't a whole lot of quests in it. And there's not much in the way of visual customization of your characters. Still, it's a lot of fun.

Since it's free now, why should you buy this? Well, for one, the game is rather large (3.7 gigabytes or so) so it saves a big download, and if you buy the retail box, you get 100,000 in game currency, 1000 cash shop gold (which is how they make money these days) and a UPC, which is a playable version of an NPC.

Sword of the New World-Granada Espada Feature

    • Powerful Multi-Character Control (MCC) gives players simultaneous command of up to three characters.
    • Striking Original Graphics. Sword of the New World’s bold art direction was inspired by the supremacy of Europe’s Baroque period.
    • Knock-Out Classes – Fighter, Wizard, Musketeer, Scout, and Elementalist – are created in an impressive barracks under one family name, which each character carries as a surname.
    • Exciting Stances deliver unmatched gameplay variety and depth. Each class can change between several distinct stances, and each stance offers unique skills, abilities, and equipment options.
    • Intense PvE and PvP Combat challenges players with rapid, dynamic action, whether they solo or group.

Sword of the New World-Granada Espada Overview

Sword of the New World-Granada Espada is the revolutionary MMORPG destined to conquer the West. In Korea, it won the award for Best Graphics and also captured the prestigious 2006 Presidential Award for Game of the Year. The game was developed by Hakkyu Kim, CEO of imcGAMES and creator of Ragnarok Online. Set on a vast, dangerous continent with a story inspired by Europe’s exploration of the Americas, this blade dominates with thrilling graphics, groundbreaking design, and fast-paced, action-packed gameplay.

    Tycoon City: New York Review

I play games of all types. Being disabled and homebound the majority of the time, I spend all my waking hours on my computer either online or playing a game, sometimes both at once.

Reading the other reviews I am seeing people who bought the game thinking it was something it wasn't. It is exactly what it said it was, a business Sim game. You build your businesses, if you get enough of the same kind then you build a headquarters and you make money. No, you can't lose money, I like that, it means I don't have to search the web for cheats so I'm able to actually get enough money to build at the pace I want instead of cheating to get it.

Complicated games are fun if you are young, have a med free mind, etc. I am 50, am on many different meds for various incurable auto immune diseases and Fibro which all cause intractable, chronic pain. Pain meds get the pain gone, but can make it hard some days to concentrate for any length of time on something. Games like this one fill a need, for people like me who want a fun game to play that has an easy learning curve and that you can win without having to cheat.

For those having problems with their video, it sounds like you need to upgrade your computer's video card. The new games coming out are so graphically intense, you need a top of the line video card in order to play them. You can find one for under 200 if you are patient and look around at different sites online, but I've gotten the best deals right here on Amazon for the last 2 I've bought. I expect when I need to upgrade again in a year or two, I will be right back here to order again. :) I buy ATI's, which have always been the best for the sim and shooter games I play.

I'm sorry some of you didn't like the game, but I'm of the opposite view. I love it and am having a lot of fun laying out my town, fixing up my parks, watching the wild Halloween parade you get with the first area you build LOL and deciding how I can best decorate the front of each business that will please the customers the most (the game will tell you before you put a choice down).

Things have sure come a long way in gaming since I got that first pong game and attached it to my TV when I was young. The one cool thing about being my age, I've had the joy of watching it all grow thru the years and I was hooked from day one when I got Pong, then Atari, etc., to my homebuilt gaming computer of today. Enjoy the game for what it is and it will bring hours of fun.

Now I'm off to change over to my other window under this one, which is of course, Tycoon City New York. Haha, seriously, I was playing and decided to write this here and give my thoughts on the game. Sorry if this is kinda long, I wanted to cover all the previous posts as well as possible.
